New Officials Class - 2025/2026

New Officials Class put on by FVBOA!

The Flathead Valley Basketball Officials Association welcomes you to our annual class for new basketball officials.

The class starts Sept. 2 and runs for six Tuesday evenings at Flathead High School.

The course covers all aspects of becoming a high school basketball official, from signals and rules, to on court mechanics, game management and more.

The course meets from 6-730 p.m. in the Flex Room at Flathead High, adjacent to the Boyle Gymnasium.

We will spend the first three sessions in the classroom and on the court, then we will introduce you to actual game officiating with scrimmages among local high school teams.

FVBOA Evaluation Process 2023/2024

Evaluations are based on a rubric for scoring that helps our pool with consistency and understanding of what is important to the FVBOA with regard to quality of officials. The rubric, evaluation online form, and upcoming game schedule can be found at https://www.fvboa.org/evaluations . Questions should be directed to our Evaluation Director, Grady Bennett .

July Basketball Officials Clinic

New Officials Clinic July 23-24, 2021

The Flathead Valley Basketball Officials Association, in conjunction with the Stillwater Christian high school basketball camp, announces a new clinic for beginning officials.

Led by veteran officials of the FVBOA, the clinic will offer a short classroom session and on-floor work during the SCS camp tournament, which will feature varsity boys’ and girls’ teams from Thompson Falls, Stillwater Christian, Billings Christian and Flathead Valley Home School.

This clinic is a chance for newer officials with one to three years’ experience to hone their skills in a positive, productive and relaxed environment. Junior officials will be paired with senior officials on the floor, giving newer officials a chance to develop solid skills for basketball officiating.

Attendance at the clinic counts for TWO study club requirements of the FVBOA. The clinic is free. Light snacks provided.

Areas of classroom session will include:

The job of the officials
Philosophy of advantage/disadvantage
Two-person court positioning from jump ball to buzzer
Mechanics, signals and communication
Professionalism and court presence

SCHEDULE

Friday, July 23

3:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. — Classroom session

5:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. — On-court officiating in tournament setting

Saturday, July 24

9 a.m. to 2 p.m. — On-court officiating
